Medibus for Deutsche Bahn AG in operation

VDL Bus & Coach has delivered a VDL Citea LLE-127 configured as a medibus to DB Regio Bus. The bus has been used as a mobile GP practice in Germany since 1 July. The vehicle is equipped with a treatment room with all the usual equipment that a doctor needs, a consultation room, a small laboratory and a waiting area. The bus was built by VDL Bus Venlo in cooperation with VDL Bus Heerenveen and VDL Bus Chassis.

“VDL Bus Venlo is a specialist in specials. The production of this bus was an unusual project. It makes us proud that – thanks in part to the good cooperation with VDL Bus Chassis and VDL Bus Heerenveen – we were able to build the medibus for DB Regio Bus and thus contribute to this socially beneficial objective,” says Managing Director Mark Francot of VDL Bus Venlo.

Deployment of the medibus

The Citea LLE will be leased by Bayern Express & P. Kühn, a subsidiary of DB Regio Bus, to KVH (Kassenärztliche Vereinigung Hessen, Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians). KVH is going operate the medibus four days a week as a mobile GP practice in six villages in the districts of Hersfeld – Rotenburg and Werra – Meißner in North and East Hesse, Germany. Due to the shortage of doctors in rural areas, the KVH will operate the mobile practice for two years as a pilot project to ensure that rural residents also receive the necessary medical care.

VDL Citea LLE
The Citea LLE is a low entry bus based on an innovative lightweight concept. This 12.7 metre variant is the longest variant of the type VDL Citea LLE. The VDL Citea LLE for DB Regio Bus is a customer-specific vehicle. Through modifications to the basic structure of the vehicle the bus has been fully customized to meet the customer's requirements. The bus is fully configured as a GP practice and has four rooms complete with cabinets and furniture. Each room also has its own air conditioning. A large awning has been fitted to the side of the bus to provide an additional waiting area on location if necessary. There are solar panels mounted on the roof of the bus that provide clean energy so the bus is less dependent on external power when on location.
