First Euro 6 VDL Citeas for Finland

An order for no fewer than 29 Citeas to be delivered in December 2013 will be the first VDL Citeas with Euro 6 engines for Finland. The Citeas have been sold to Pohjolan Liikenne, a Finnish public transport company, and will be used for the city bus lines in Helsinki.
“We wanted to expand the number of preferred suppliers for our buses, so we compared several alternatives. Many positive aspects of the VDL Citeas really caught our eye – a long service life and low fuel consumption result in maximum Profit of Ownership. That made the choice very easy for us”, says Heikki Alanko, Managing Director of Pohjolan Liikenne.

The order consists of 9 Citeas LLE-120 with a length of 12 metres, 15 Citeas SLE-129 with a length of 12.9 metres and 5 Citeas XLE-145, a three-axle bus with a length of 14.5 metres. All the Citeas are equipped with a ZF Ecolife gearbox and ESC. The XLE 3-axle buses are equipped with an additional safety provision on the 3rd axle to prevent the back end from swinging out, over the kerb for example. These are not only the first Euro 6 Citeas for Finland, but also the first Citeas with fully electric sliding plug doors.
“In 2012 we introduced a total of three Citea models on the Finnish market. The order from Pohjolan Liikenne consists of a mix of these three models. This shows once again that our vehicles are very well suited to the needs of the Finnish market. We are very proud to have received this order from Pohjolan Liikenne”, says Remi Henkemans, Managing Director VDL Bus & Coach bv.
The three Citea models purchased by Pohjolan Liikenne make optimal use of the module system from which the Citea range is built. This high degree of modularity not only results in a tailored solution for each deployment area but also benefits the operator in many ways, in connection with repairs, maintenance and stocked parts for example.
